Folliculitis

Number 7 of 20 on our list of the Top 20 Skin Conditions is more common than many realize. Folliculitis – the inflammation of one or more hair follicles – can occur anywhere on the skin.
Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston
Folliculitis occurs when hair follicles become damaged by shaving, blockage, or friction from clothing. Often, these follicles become infected by Staphylococcus bacteria. Symptoms of Folliculitis can include pustules or pimples at the follicle as well as itching or a rash.

Most often, Folliculitis can be solved by applying a damp, heated compress to the affected area to encourage drainage of the follicle. For reoccurring Folliculitis, laser hair removal is also another option for a more permanent solution.
