Question: What is a Physician Assistant?
Answer: At Dermatology and Laser Center of Charleston we utilize a mid-level provider called a Physician Assistant (PA). A Physician Assistant is licensed to practice medicine and prescribe medications under the supervision of a collaborating physician in all 50 states. They can be found in virtually any medical and surgical specialty and perform many of the duties traditionally performed by physicians. Physician assistants conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, provide counseling, assist in surgery, give medical orders and write prescriptions. Their rigorous education is standardized by a national accrediting committee and follows the physician model. During their education they often share classes and clinical rotations with medical students.
With the rigorous standards governing the education and certification of PA’s, patients can rest assured that when they see a physician assistant they will receive quality, cost effective care
We are very happy to welcome our new Physician Assistant, Bill Price, PA-C, to the office and look forward to the positive contribution he will bring to DLCC!
