Laser Hair Removal Myths – Part 2
Last Monday for our MediSpa Monday post, Lori Wrightington our Certified Laser Technician and MediSpa Manager sat down to debunk a few common Laser Hair Removal Myths. Today she’s back with Part 2 of the series and a few more misconceptions to break.
Myth #4: All hair grows at the same time.
Why it’s false: Hair actually has 3 growth cycles.
- Anagen – growth phase
- Catagen – renewal phase
- Telagen – resting phase with no hair growth
Because of these 3 cycles, hair in different areas of the body does not always grow at the same rate.
Myth #5: African American skin cannot be treated.
Why it’s false: At DLCC we utilize both the Candela GentleLASE and the Candela GentleYAG lasers for hair removal. The GentleYAG laser is designed to effectively treat darker skinned individuals without discoloring the pigmentation.
Myth #6: Hair is 100% Permanently Removed.
Why it’s false: The goal of laser hair removal is to remove at least 80-90% of the hair and lessen the growth of the remaining hair. That which remains is often much finer, minimal, and in some cases lighter. A hair removal touch up may be required every couple of months depending on an individual’s hair growth, but permanent, 100% hair removal is never the case. (So don’t let anyone tell you it can be done!)
