Skin Tags

A very common occurrence, skin tags are a type of benign growth that is often referred to as “hanging moles.” Skin tags vary greatly in size and can be found in the underarms, neck, groin, and other areas of the skin fold. Harmless skin growths, skin tags have been known to resemble seborrheic keratoses, molluscum contagiosum, and warts.

Causes

  • The exact cause of skin tags is unknown, however as they tend to appear most in areas of skin folds, they may be a result of skin rubbing against other skin.

  • Resistance to insulin and higher levels of growth hormones are also possible leading factors to the growth of skin tags.

Treatments

  • Skin tags can be removed easily and efficiently at the Dermatology and Laser Center of Charleston with no downtime. A medical office visit is required to diagnose the skin tags as they can sometimes resemble other skin conditions.
