Dysport™ is the newest breakthrough in anti-aging injectables and wrinkle removal.

Dysport injections utilize the same refined botulinum toxin that BOTOX® Cosmetic has made famous in recent years. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport’s neuromuscular blocking toxin relaxes tense facial muscles, and quickly eliminates forehead wrinkles, undereye wrinkles and crow’s feet—for a younger-looking, more revitalized facial appearance.

Who makes Dysport™?

Dysport™ is co-developed by Ipsen SA and Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation.

Is Dysport™ FDA approved?

Dysport™, approved in the European Union, Brazil, Argentina and more than 26 countries worldwide is a form of botulinum type A, similar to the protein found in BOTOX® Cosmetic, approved for fighting wrinkles in the U.S. since 2004.

Dysport™ was approved by the FDA in April, 2009 and the first injections were performed in the United States in June, 2009. Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston was among the first Centers in the United States to perform Dysport™ treatments (non-study related).

Are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport™ interchangeable?

Both temporarily modify the action of facial muscles, smoothing out undesirable lines between the brows, across the forehead or crow’s feet to restore a more youthful, less stressed appearance. But they are not interchangeable, they have distinct dosing differences.

What makes Dysport™ different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Dysport™ may diffuse more widely than BOTOX® Cosmetic, so it is important that your practitioner is experienced in using Dysport™. This aspect may also make for a more complete and natural result that is highly desired by patients who have been treated with Dysport™.

Does Dysport™ start working faster than BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Some studies have indicated that persons treated with Dysport™ may see results in as little as 24 hours as compared with 3-10 days for BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Does Dysport™ work for a longer period of time than BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Like BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, Dysport™ injections are temporary. Length of results is estimated at anywhere from 3-6 months.

Dysport™ Recovery Time:

Dysport™ patients should be able to resume daily activities immediately after treatment. Makeup can help to cover any temporary bruising or redness, and over-the-counter pain killers should be all that’s needed to treat any subsequent headaches.

Possible side effects of Dysport™ injections include mild bruising, tenderness at the injection site, and minor headaches. On rare occasions, Dysport™ may “spread” to other areas, causing side effects like eyelid drooping (ptosis). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use Dysport™. Patients with any form of neuromuscular disease are also non-candidates.

Dr. Schlesinger has treated a number of patients with Dysport™ who would be willing to talk about their experience and results. For more information, call 843-556-8886.

Do your research thoroughly. Speak to other people to find out who the best physicians in the area are and/or have had other procedures done in the office.

Get different opinions and check the physician’s credentials (board certification and experience). What specialty is the physician board certified in? Does that specialty match the advertised specialty and services?

Review all possible side effects and benefits before having the procedure performed.

Have realistic expectations. You will be happiest if your goal is to look your personal best at any age.
