Pumpkins for Skin Care Purposes
Pumpkins are a token decoration this time of year, but did you know they also provide proven benefits to your skin as well?
A powerhouse of Vitamins A, C and E, as well as a host of beneficial enzymes to help the appearance of your skin, pumpkins can be used year round as part of your skin care regimen. Vitamin A is a key ingredient in many anti-aging products such as Retinoids (which are chemically related to Vitamin A), helping with cell turnover and exfoliation. This vitamin also can be found in many products to help reduce acne and balance dry skin. Vitamins C and E play important roles when it comes to repairing sun damage and helping to prevent future sun damage. You find them most often in antioxidant serums applied in your morning skin care regimen.
While eating pumpkin can work its magic from the inside out, there are many products on the market containing pumpkin extract which can provide benefits as well. Another option is re-purposing your decorations for a do-it-yourself home skin care remedy. There are many variations when it comes to DIY pumpkin masks, however if this is your first time, try this basic pumpkin mask recipe:
- 3 teaspoons pumpkin
- 1/2 teaspoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon milk
- dash of cinnamon
Mix all ingredients and apply to freshly cleaned skin. Let dry for about 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
*As with any home skin care remedy, we strongly recommend testing the mixture on a small area of your arm or leg and waiting 24 hours to check for any sort of reaction.
